When I was in high school, I wanted to be a lawyer. I was told, by school counselors, that I should give up that dream because men who would have families to support would need those jobs. That was in the 1980s.

Financial dependence is the great enabler of abuse and that attitude causes it to thrive. It's sad I was discouraged by others.
